IELTS to CLB Converter maps an IELTS overall band score (0–9) to its corresponding Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level. CLB levels are used by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for Express Entry, CEC, FSW, and other federal economic programs.

The conversion table is reviewed against official IRCC guidance; note that applicants are scored per skill (listening, reading, writing, speaking), and the lowest skill CLB is often the effective benchmark.

Common errors

Per-skill differences

Each IELTS section has its own CLB mapping.

Fix: Convert each section separately and take the lowest for program eligibility.

TEF / PTE not supported

This tool only handles IELTS.

Is this the official CLB chart?

It follows the publicly-published IRCC mapping for IELTS General Training.

Do academic and general training differ?

The General Training version is used for immigration and is what this tool maps.

Why does CLB 12 appear twice?

IELTS bands 8.5 and 9.0 both map to CLB 12 — the top of the CLB scale.

Can I convert per skill?

Is data uploaded?
