What is MP3 Cutter

Written by Giorgos Kostas. Last reviewed:

MP3 Cutter trims an MP3 file by start and end time so you can export a shorter clip for podcasts, music snippets, ringtones, lessons, or sound effects.

The tool previews the original MP3 in the browser, sends the selected time range to FFmpeg, and returns a playable trimmed MP3 with optional fade in or fade out.

Why use it

  • Cut long MP3 recordings down to the exact segment you need without opening a desktop audio editor.
  • Listen to the original file and the exported result before downloading the final trimmed MP3.
  • Add short fades to smooth music clips, intros, outros, ringtone starts, or sound-effect endings.

Features

  • Single-file MP3 cutting by start and end timestamp
  • Original MP3 player and trimmed result player for quick listening checks
  • Optional fade in and fade out controls with configurable fade duration
  • MP3 output bitrate presets for 128, 192, 256, and 320 kbps
  • Server-side FFmpeg processing with a 100 MB MP3 upload limit and temporary file cleanup

How to use MP3 Cutter

  1. Upload an MP3. Drop one MP3 file into the upload area and use the source player to find the segment you want.
  2. Set cut times. Enter the start and end timestamp, then enable fade in or fade out when the clip should start or end smoothly.
  3. Cut and preview. Run the cutter, listen to the trimmed MP3 result, and download the final clip.

Example (before/after)

Source MP3

interview-recording.mp3, cut from 00:02:15.000 to 00:03:45.000 with 0.5s fade out

Trimmed MP3

interview-recording-cut.mp3, a shorter 90-second MP3 clip ready to share

Common errors

End time is before the start time

The selected MP3 segment must have a positive duration.

Fix: Enter a start time earlier than the end time, or leave the end field blank to cut from the start time to the file end.

Fade duration is too long

A fade cannot be longer than the MP3 segment itself.

Fix: Use short fades such as 0.5s or 1s. The server caps each fade to half of the selected clip length.

Uploading another audio format

This cutter is focused on MP3 input and MP3 output.

Fix: Convert WAV, M4A, FLAC, AAC, AIFF, or WMA to MP3 first, then use MP3 Cutter for trimming.

FAQ

Can MP3 Cutter preview the result before download?

Yes. After cutting, the result panel includes an audio player so you can listen to the trimmed MP3 before downloading it.

Does MP3 Cutter support fade in and fade out?

Yes. Fade in and fade out are optional and disabled by default. Each fade duration can be set in seconds, with short values such as 0.5s or 1s recommended.

What timestamp formats does MP3 Cutter accept?

Use seconds such as 12.5 or HH:MM:SS.mmm values such as 00:00:12.500. The end time must be later than the start time when it is provided.

Does MP3 Cutter keep the original MP3 quality?

The tool re-encodes the selected segment so fades and accurate cuts are reliable. Choose a higher bitrate such as 256 or 320 kbps when you want a larger, higher-quality output.

Are uploaded MP3 files stored permanently by MP3 Cutter?

No. Files are written to a temporary server workspace for FFmpeg processing and deleted after the response is returned.
